It has never been more important to encourage more students to pursue science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) than now. These disciplines will be the foundation for building the future of our children and in helping them build productive lives in it.

One of the most important goals of all education, at every level, is to support and strengthen the disposition to go on learning throughout life. Therefore, Our Lady of Mercy Academy will be implementing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in the fall of our 2012-2013 school year in the Early Childhood Program.

As a STEM school, Our Lady of Mercy Academy is creating greater opportunities for our students to become leaders in science, technology and mathematics. Out school is proud to be a part of the Diocese of Paterson STEM initiative. The STEM program works alongside our FOSS science program, and is aligned to State and National standards. This rigorous curriculum of science, technology, engineering and mathematics integration will enable our students to meet the challenges of a global society through innovation, collaboration, and creative problem solving.

Our Lady of Mercy Academy will be working with Stevens Institute of Technology to bring STEM education to our students. Our students and teachers will work with Stevens to use scientific knowledge in physics, chemistry, technology, and earth/space science to investigate challenging and rigorous content and to use and manage the engineering process to support scientific learning.  As a STEM school, we hope to create greater opportunities to make our students leaders in science, technology and mathematics.
